No one can argue that the last 18 months has been a once in a lifetime experience for us all.  The first global pandemic in over 100 years forced societal lockdowns resulting in isolation, sadness and economic chaos. It encouraged innovation, automation and transformed workplaces in a timeframe most would not have thought was possible.  We witnessed an erosion of trust, political upheaval, protests against racism, resulting in demands for increased attention to social purpose, equity, diversity and environmental change.  The pandemic has not only impacted our communities, our businesses and our environment but continues to create uncertainty and opportunity into the near future.

The pandemic has tested us all, and while not over, we do have the opportunity to shape how we would like to emerge…and as you undoubtedly can attest to, so will the profession of internal auditing. Some audit leaders have said that this is the most significant turning point in the past 20 years for the internal audit profession, potentially a “new beginning”.

David Horsager – CEO, Trust Edge Leadership

As a result of the pandemic-created isolation, indicators are showing that there has been an erosion of trust between individuals and between clients/customers, employees with organizations and governments. Correspondingly, it has become far more challenging to build trust in this environment. David Horsager is a prolific researcher, speaker and author in the subject of “trust” and he is the CEO of Trust Edge Leadership Institute, Trust Expert in Residence at High Point University, and Wall Street Journal. His book titles include best sellers “The Trust Edge” and “Leading with Trust”. David has advised leaders and delivered life-changing presentations on six continents, with audiences ranging everywhere from FedEx, Toyota, MIT and global governments to the New York Yankees and the Department of Homeland Security.  As a speaker, David is known as “the most relevant keynote of the decade”.

Wes Hall – Executive Chairman & Founder of Kingsdale Advisors and The Canadian Council of Business Leaders Against Anti-Black Systemic Racism and The BlackNorth Initiative.

As 2020 unfolded, we witnessed high profile incidents and anti-racism protests beyond anything most of us had ever seen. In reality, systemic racism has always existed but has not been in the public eye to this extent. These events further highlighted the need for governments, corporations, and other organizations to greatly enhance their diversity and inclusion efforts. Wes Hall immigrated from Jamaica 30 years ago and worked his way up from the mailroom to the Boardroom. Along the way, he had to deal with challenges relating to his race and colour. In 2020, he established the BlackNorth Initiative gathering a large group of corporate leaders, with a goal to breakdown the systemic barriers that have kept leaders from underrepresented groups out of the Executive suite.
