Internal Audit’s Role in Diversity Equity & Inclusion
Level: BasicDiversity, equity and inclusion is a fundamental dimension of ethics and culture in the workplace. With Boards becoming increasingly focused on fostering DEI within their organization, they understand how poor behaviour and unhealthy culture can adversely impact day-to-day activities within an organization, the strategic direction and ultimately, the bottom line. Boards recognize that the uplift organizations receive from having a diverse workforce and inclusive culture is substantial across shareholders, employees, customers, and business partners. In response to heightened expectations from stakeholders, the imperative for internal auditors to understand and anticipate cultural risks has never been higher. Internal audit’s objectivity, skills, and enterprise-wide perspective provides a unique opportunity to identify DEI risks and areas for enhancement, and drive meaningful impact within organizations.
